EAR SURGERY

Ear Surgery, also referred to as Otoplasty, includes a wide variety of procedures designed to improve the shape of the ears. This may include simply reshaping what is there, adding tissue, or removing tissue. Other common procedures on the ears include Reduction of Large Ears, Reduction of Large Ear Lobes, Ear Ring Repairs (rips in ear lobe from ear rings or large holes from gauges) and Keloid Removals.
Who is a good candidate for Ear Surgery?

Otoplasty can address several concerns, including:
-
Ears that protrude or stick out farther than is considered normal
-
Ears that are asymmetric
-
An ear that is smaller or larger than what is considered normal
-
An ear that has abnormal shape due to trauma or injury
-
An ear with an abnormal shape since birth
-
Ears that are damaged from gauges or large earrings.
-
Ears with excess scarring or Keloids

What should a patient expect during and after Ear Surgery?
Patients will usually have a protective dressing that must be left on several days after an Otoplasty. It is best not to lay on one's side to avoid damaging the repair.

What results can a patient expect from Otoplasty?
The amount of improvement will vary and depends largely on the problem that is being addressed. Patients usually have significant improvement in the appearance of their individual ears and improved symmetry between both ears.
